Fantasy Baseball Buzz: Puig day to day with thumb injury
Never, ever slide head first into into first base, kids. Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig hurt his left thumb doing that on Saturday, suffering a strained ligament. The Dodgers think it seems "more like a day-to-day thing than a DL thing," according to manager Don Mattingly, but we should know more today.
On to the rest of the news:
Today's Brewers-Phillies game has already been postponed due to inclement weather, and rescheduled for tomorrow.
Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is on the DL with a hamstring injury; we should get a clearer prognosis today or tomorrow on the length of Teixeira's absence. Kelly Johnson might earn some fantasy 1B eligibility soon, as he's been the initial replacement.
As feared, Mets closer Bobby Parnell will have Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season. Jose Valverde is the man in Queens, at least for now.
So, Matt Kemp hit two homers last night. I guess he's feeling OK.
Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks is on the DL with a calf strain. Jonathan Herrera and callup Brock Holt will share time at third base during Middlebrooks' absence.
So far, so good with Cole Hamels' rehab.
Yu Darvish made his first start of the season on Sunday, and was pretty terrific, as usual.
White Sox RP Nate Jones is on the DL with a hip injury. If all goes well for my fantasy teams, Jones will come off the DL at the exact time Matt Lindstrom implodes.
Streaming starters: Weekend picks Dan Straily (good enough), Rick Porcello (pretty good) and Nathan Eovaldi (solid, and already becoming a blog favorite) raised our record to 5-2. That's not bad, right?
Today's streaming pick from a limited selection (excuse alert!) is Jarred Cosart (owned in 2.8 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Angels, while Tuesday's selection is Tyson Ross (15.1 percent owned) at Cleveland.
Pirates SP prospect Jameson Taillon will have Tommy John surgery and miss the season.
The Twins are hoping that OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) is ready to play by Wednesday; if not, he'll go on the DL. Bench Arcia this week if that's an option. Josh Willingham is also nursing a wrist injury after getting hit by a pitch, but it doesn't sound serious.
The Dodgers are hoping that Josh Beckett can return for a Wednesday start.
The Indians hope that OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) will return this weekend.
Astros CF Dexter Fowler (stomach virus) might not travel to Toronto for the series that begins tomorrow. Bench Fowler this week if you can.
Reds OF Billy Hamilton (finger) might be back in the lineup today. Fortunately, he doesn't need his fingers to steal bases.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
