Delaware State Police were Monday investigating the death of an experienced bull rider from New Castle after he fell during a rodeo event.
Leonel Trejo, 40, was thrown to the ground about one minute into a ride at New Castle's Nur Temple about 9:30pm Sunday. The bull then stepped on his chest area, police said.
State police said Trejo was not wearing protective equipment at the time. It is not required during Mexican bull riding events.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Trejo to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, and state police said they are still investigating.
