Former Arizona Wildcats guard Nick Johnson capped an impressive week in the Orlando Summer League with a triple-double -- and another highlight dunk -- for the Houston Rockets on Friday.
Johnson, in the team's 101-75 victory over Brooklyn, had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, a performance that also included a 360-degree dunk -- the kind of move that Arizona fans saw from the 6-foot-3 guard on a couple of occasions.
Johnson began the week of summer league play with a soaring left-handed dunk over Detroit's Tim Ohlbrecht. As Johnson said of his leaping ability late last season at Arizona: "I don't have a 47-inch vert for nothing."
Off the court, the news was even better for Johnson on Friday. The Rockets sent guard Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers, which, for the moment, opens the door to a potential bigger role for Johnson, a second-round pick.
Johnson averaged 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists in five games in Orlando. The Rockets' summer-league action shifts to Las Vegas for three games, starting Saturday night.
Two of Johnson's summer teammates are former Arizona State Sun Devils, including long-time friend Jahii Carson, an undrafted point guard. Guard Jermaine Marshall, also undrafted, led the Rockets with 21 points Friday.
Carson is averaging 8.4 points and 1.6 assists in the summer. Marshall is averaging 9.0 points.
