Ex-cheerleader arrested in sex assault case
A former Tennessee Titans cheerleader found herself behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy.
Elizabeth Leigh Garner, 42, who was a member of the Titans cheerleading squad four years ago at the age of 38, was officially indicted on charges of sexual battery and solicitation of a minor after allegedly following the 12-year-old into a bathroom and fondling him while attending a party at a friend's house. The police report states that Garner is also being accused of trying to seduce him.
In an off-camera interview with Tennessee's NewsChannel 5, Garner stated she is innocent.
The police report states she told detectives that she was intoxicated at her friend's residence and that she "got the boy confused with a man that was also at the residence."
Though the 42-year-old, who is married, has not been associated with the Titans organization for years, she did find her way onto the blogosphere and into newspapers as the eldest member of the squad back in 2008.
"That's just absolutely no excuse for sexual assaulting a child. If you can't tell the difference between a 12-year-old and an adult then there are problems," Kyle Evans, a member of the Murfreesboro Police Department, said.
Garner has been released on $30,000 bond.
