CHESTER-LE-STREET, England (AP) Alastair Cook is still waiting to get to 10,000 runs after he was out for 15 as England reached 83-2 at lunch Friday on the first day of the second test against Sri Lanka.
Cook was caught in the slips off Suranga Lakmal and is now five short of becoming the first Englishman to 10,000 test runs. No. 3 Nick Compton, under pressure for his place, was out for nine to a spectacular catch in the deep by Lakmal.
Opener Alex Hales was unbeaten on 45 and approaching his second half-century in two innings this series.
