Durant's latest signature shoe honors late aunt

Out of all the signature Nike shoes Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has released over the years, this latest one holds a special place in his heart.

The KD VI Aunt Pearl, which is to be released Feb. 27, was created to honor Durant's late aunt Pearl, who passed away from lung cancer in 2000.

"I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set, and the encouragement she gave me to follow my dreams," Durant said, according to Nike.

Stepping away from the traditional, flashy colors seen on many of Nike's signature shoes, the KD VI Aunt Pearl features a pink floral pattern and has the Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo adorned on the tongue.

Proceeds from the shoe will go to the fund, which was founded in 2007 to help find an answer in the fight against women's cancers through supporting research programs and related projects.
