Dunbar Jets off to new D-line job in New York
Former Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar has found his next coaching assignment, agreeing to the same position with the New York Jets.
New York officially announced Dunbar as its defensive line coach for the upcoming season along with other coaching hires on Monday. Dunbar, who spent seven seasons with Minnesota, was fired after the season and ended up being the only coach let go after the Vikings went 3-13 in 2011 and had the league's 21st ranked defense in terms of yards allowed and was 31st in points allowed.
Dunbar's release was a curious one as his defensive line led the way for the defense, and included Jared Allen's 22 sacks, tying the second-highest total in NFL history. Defensive end Brian Robison also had eight sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his first season as a starter.
Brendan Daly was hired to replace Dunbar, as the defensive staff was shaken up. Alan Williams was hired as the new defensive coordinator for Minnesota and former coordinator Fred Pagac returned to his role as linebackers coach.
