LONDON (AP) South Africa captain Faf du Plessis will miss the first test against England due to family reasons and Dean Elgar will lead the team.

Du Plessis returned home last week for the birth of his first child, but Cricket South Africa says, ''he will be unable to return in time for the opening test'' which starts on Thursday at Lord's.

''Faf's wife gave birth to their first child last week but the difficult nature of the delivery has delayed his return to the UK,'' team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

Du Plessis will rejoin the team later this week and will lead in the second test, starting from July 14.
