DraftKings MLB Picks For October 6

The Divisional Round of the playoffs begins tonight. Where there are two games, you know there is a DraftKings tournament waiting for us! All four of the pitchers are priced above $7,000, so we have to get creative with our lineups. Let’s check the past stats to see where we can save some money for pitching.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

    Best Bets:

Marco Estrada ($8,600): So why did the Blue Jays pass on J.A. Happ in game one? It could be because the Rangers are only hitting .214 against Estrada in 112 at bats. The Rangers do have five homers, but only nine runs, and they have a healthy 28 strikeouts. On a small slate, Estrada wont be the diamond in the rough that you are looking for, but he will be less widely used that Hamels or Porcello.

Cole Hamels ($10,500): The Jays are hitting a robust .267 against the Rangers ace in 86 at bats, but they only have four homers and eight RBI to show for it. What really puts Hamels in this tier is his 22 strikeouts, which is a little better than one out of every four he faces. That is a great rate for a starter. If you don’t mind spending – and don’t mind using opposing pitchers against each other – Hamels and Estrada are the best options you have tonight.

    Honorable Mention:

Rick Porcello ($9,300): Cleveland is hitting an impressive .290 against Porcello in 238 at bats with six homers and 24 runs. What keeps him in this tier besides the average is the rather pedestrian 43 strikeouts. That said, many of these numbers were put up on Porcello when he was with the Tigers. His stuff wasn’t what it is now. His season ERA of 3.15 compared to his career mark of 4.20 tells you that. In his only start against Cleveland this year, Porcello gave up two runs on five hits and a walk in 5.2 innings with six strikeouts. He is a suitable plan B if you don’t trust Hamels or Estrada.

Trevor Bauer ($7,000): There is a reason why Bauer is the cheapest option out there. The Sox are crushing him so far. Boston owns a .386 average in 44 at bats with two homers and a whopping 14 runs. Bauer has only struck out five as well. There is really no reason to use Bauer here. In fact, his presence on the mound for Cleveland makes Porcello an even more enticing option.

David Ortiz ($5,500) has liked what he has seen from Trevor Bauer so far. Ortiz has four hits in five at bats with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI. Mookie Betts ($5,600) has three hits in five at bats with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Bauer. Brock Holt ($3,300) could be a great option on the cheap. Holt has two hits in three at bats with a triple and a RBI. Hanley Ramirez ($4,000) has two singles and two RBI in five at bats against Bauer.

You may want to take a look at Mitch Moreland ($2,600) tonight. He is 3-8 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI in his career off of Marco Estrada. Carlos Beltran ($4,500) is 8-30(.267) with four walks, three homers, and five RBI. Rougned Odor ($4,000) has a solo homer against Estrada, but it is his only hit in six at bats.

Edwin Encarnacion ($3,900) is 5-14 with two walks and a solo homer against Cole Hamels. Russell Martin ($2,800) crushes lefties, and Hamels is no exception. Martin is 5-18(.278) with a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Troy Tulowitzki ($3,200) has five hits in 15 tries with a walk, a triple, two homers, and four RBI against Hamels.

Jason Kipnis ($4,300) is 10-31(.323) with four walks, a double, a homer, and eight RBI against Rick Porcello. Mike Napoli ($3,600) has six hits in 18 at bats with a walk, two doubles, and a triple, but he has no counting stats. Carlos Santana ($4,700) is 12-41(.293) with five walks, two doubles, three homers, and four RBI against Porcello.

Good luck out there, and check out our picks for the NFL!
