The Miami Dolphins announced that they have waived former third round pick Michael Egnew on Friday, one day before their home preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Additionally, the team also waived tackle Micajah Reynolds and injured defensive back Jalil Brown.
Egnew, the 6-foot-5 All-American tight end out of Missouri, never really caught on with the team, totaling seven receptions for 69 total yards with no touchdowns in two seasons since being taken by former general manager Jeff Ireland with the 78th pick in the 2012 draft.
He was used as a fullback last season and played all 16 games for the team, but he was deemed expendable after failing to impress under offensive coach Bill Lazor's new system in training camp.
The Dolphins must trim their roster down to 75 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday and finalize their 53-man roster Aug. 30.
