Dodgers select RHP in first round of MLB Draft
The Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday picked up Jacksonville University right-handed pitcher Chris Anderson with the 18th overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, marking the 10th time in 11 years that the club has selected a pitcher with their first pick.
Anderson, who went 7-5 with a 2.49 ERA and three complete games, became Jacksonville University's first player to be selected in the first round.
The 6-foot-4 225-pound righty was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team after leading the conference with 101 strikeouts in 104.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .2331 batting average.
“We’re extremely excited to have selected a player of Chris’ ability level,” said Dodger Vice President, Amateur Scouting Logan White. “He’s a big physical young man with three quality Major League pitches and a bulldog-competitive makeup to go with it.”
According to Baseball America, Anderson is the ninth-best right-hand hurler in the draft.
Anderson was also named Mr. Baseball, Gatorade Player of the Year and Louisville Slugger Player of the Year as a senior at Centennial High School in Lino Lakes, Minnesota.
