Doan goes high and tight, expresses excitement in Coyotes' future
We've seen our share of botched ceremonial first pitches in recent years, including none other than Super Bowl star/Deflategate villain Tom Brady.
Captain Coyotes Shane Doan was going to make sure he didn't join the list of shame.
To that end Doan got some advice from Diamondbacks star Paul Goldschmidt before throwing out the first pitch in Monday's Diamondbacks-Braves game at Chase Field.
"He said don't bounce it," Doan told FOX Sports Arizona's Kate Longworth. "So I said I may throw it over the backstrop, but I promise I won't bounce it."
Doan was true to his word, firing a pitch a high and into the right-handed hitter's batter's box (skip ahead to about 2:50 on the video).
Doan also spoke with Longworth about the Coyotes' off-season and his admiration for Goldschmidt.
On the Coyotes, who will pick third in the NHL draft later this month: "We've got some young guys that have been in town. It's cool to see them training and getting ready. As an older guy, I hope that this offseason we bring in some guys that are really going to tribute and help us out.
"The future's great. You look at the guys like Max Domi and (Christian) Dvorak and Brendan Perlini ... they're players that we can get excited about."
On Goldschmidt: "I have two boys, 13 and 8, and he's a guy that I'm excited that they're going to get to see. He's just such an unbelievable man and on top of the fact that he maybe should be the MVP, he's the most humble, easy-going guy, and that's so much important as a dad to see that. And he's fun to watch."
