Division I, II baseball state titles on line on FOX Sports Arizona
Gilbert Mesquite was one win from the state championship in 2008 and again last season, but was kept from hoisting the trophy by Chandler Hamilton. Hamilton no longer is in Mesquite's way and this could be the Wildcats' year.
Second-seeded Mesquite will face third-seeded Peoria Liberty in the Division I baseball state championship, while top-seeded Tucson High will take on Tucson Canyon Del Oro for the Division II title on Tuesday night.
FOX Sports Arizona Plus will air the title games live from Tempe Diablo Stadium, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the Division II game. The Division I final is schedule for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.
Liberty won a Class 4A, Division II championship in 2010 and was runner-up in Division II in 2012, but like Mesquite seeks its first Division I title.
On the Division II side, Tucson and Canyon Del Oro played for the 2002 Class 5A title. It was Tucson's last appearance in a championship game. Tucson won 25 state titles before 1960, one in the 70s and then went back-to-back in 1987 and 1988.
Canyon Del Oro owns seven state titles; its last came in 2002.
