A Central Indiana school district has asked four high school track coaches to resign for ordering male and female team members to perform so-called bear crawls on an asphalt running track for missing practice the day before the prom.

Assistant Superintendent Jill Jay said the Mill Creek Community School Corp. suspended the unidentified Cascade High School coaches Thursday and contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services over the incident. Jay apologized to parents and assured them the district doesn't condone or tolerate the coaches' actions.

WRTV-TV and WTHR-TV report students suffered blisters on their hands from the drill Monday in which people walk on their hands and feet.

Some students missed practice to attend a meeting related to Saturday's prom at the school about 20 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
