Devin Booker leads Suns into Summer League title game
Devin Booker made 10 of 17 shots, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range to lead the Suns into the NBA Summer League championship game with a 93-87 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night in Las Vegas. The Suns will play the San Antonio Spurs at 6 p.m. Monday for the Summer League title.
Phoenix and New Orleans traded the lead five times efore the Suns took control with a 10-1 run to take a 79-71 lead. Josh Harrellson's 3-pointer gave the Suns a 72-70 lead and triggered the run.
The Pelicans pulled within 90-87 with 2:16 left, but the Suns held them scoreless the rest of the way.
Booker's 31 points tied the Summer League high for any player -- tying teammate Arche Goodwin's 31-point effort against the Bulls in Friday's quarterfinals. Booker scored 22 of his 31 in the second half.
Harrellson added 19 points and nine rebounds. The Suns played without center Alex Len, who was on a pre-determined rest.
Forward T.J. Warren had his worst game of the Summer League, scoring just two points in 20:52 minutes, but Warren was named to the All-Summer League first team in voting by the media. Warren is averaging 19.0 points in the Suns' six games, shooting 54.7 percent from the field.
"It's been a long Summer League, but we figured we were in the semifinals, so let's just go ahead and win it," Booker said.
Booker missed his first eight 3-pointers in Summer League play but has recovered to make 10 of 19 since.
"Shooters never stop shooting," he said. "I've been in slumps before, but you always have to keep shooting. I wasn't worried. I knew they were eventually going to fall."
