DeMarcus Ware: I have to get to the quarterback a little faster
IRVING – Just by glancing at the stat sheet it wouldn't appear that Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware made a major impact during Sunday night's 36-31 win over the New York Giants.
The seven-time Pro Bowler didn't record a sack or a tackle. Ware, however, did make one of the game's biggest plays, intercepting Eli Manning on the first play from scrimmage. It was Ware's second interception of his nine-year career.
"It feels different not having a sack, but I had 10 pressures last game," Ware said Thursday. "I hit him probably about four times if you really want to talk about that. With me, it's all about getting even more pressure, getting there a little bit faster. We got there, but me, consistently, I got to get there a little bit better."
In regards to not having a tackle, Ware said that can be contributed to the opponent's running scheme.
"A lot of teams are right-handed running teams, so they run the opposite way," he said. "But going into a game where we got up a little bit, they passed the ball a little more and the opportunities aren't as plentiful. But you got to find a way to get your head in there and get some tackles."
Ware played in every game last season, leading the Cowboys with 11.5 sacks and finishing sixth with 56 tackles.
