Davis, Southern Miss take down Tulane

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Dwayne Davis scored 21 points to lead Southern Mississippi to a 71-60 victory over Tulane in a Conference USA game Wednesday night.

Jerrold Brooks had 14 points for Southern Miss (19-6, 8-2), which had dropped two straight after opening the conference season with seven consecutive victories.

Josh Davis had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Ben Cherry scored 17 points on 5-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc for the Green Wave (16-9, 4-6), who had won two in a row.

Southern Miss shot 54.3 percent from the field (25 of 46) to Tulane's 44.7 percent (21 of 47).

Southern Miss led 31-21 at halftime and pushed it to 41-25 on Cedric Jenkins' jumper with 14:28 left. Tulane tied it at 44-all midway through the second half and led 55-53 on a jumper by Josh Davis, but the Golden Eagles' 15-3 run made it 68-58 to put the game away.
