David Price thanks Rays, fans in full page newspaper ad
David Price has begun a new chapter on the mound with the Detroit Tigers. But Tuesday morning, he made known that he still has a heart for Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Rays traded Price, the 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner, last Thursday in a three-way deal that sent him to Detroit in exchange for left-hander Drew Smyly and shortstop prospect Willy Adames from the Tigers. The Rays also received utility man Nick Franklin from the Seattle Mariners.
Price, 11-8 with a 3.11 ERA and 189 strikeouts this season, makes his Tigers debut Tuesday night against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. But as he prepares for a new stage in his career, he wanted to give thanks to Rays fans and other people from his Tampa Bay past with a full-page ad in the sports section of Tuesday's Tampa Bay Times.
