PHOENIX (AP) -- Infielder Kelly Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a $5.85 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration.
Johnson hit .284 with 26 homers, 71 RBIs and 36 doubles last season, when he made $2.35 million.
When players and teams exchanged proposed arbitration figures last month, he had asked for $6.5 million and had been offered $4.7 million.
The agreement was announced Tuesday.
Four players remain in arbitration, with hearings scheduled through Friday. Players and owners have split the two cases already decided, with Pittsburgh pitcher Ross Ohlendorf winning and Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver losing.
