D-backs acquire reliever Cody Hall from Giants
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants have traded right-hander Cody Hall to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named or cash considerations.
The Giants had designated Hall for assignment last week when they signed outfielder Denard Span and ended up trading him to Arizona on Wednesday.
Hall spent most of last season at Triple-A in Sacramento, where he went 1-3 with a 3.46 ERA in 43 relief appearances. The 28-year-old Hall had a 6.48 ERA in seven games in the majors with the Giants.
In five minor-league seasons in the Giants organization, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Hall was 13-11 with 49 saves and a 2.62 ERA. Hall owns a lifetime 10.37 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings ratio and was regarded as the 22nd-best prospect in the Giants system by MLB.com entering the 2016 season.
In a corresponding move, the D-backs designated right-handed pitcher Matt Stites for assignment. Stites, 25, was 0-0 with a 7.13 ERA in 48 games for the D-backs over two seasons.
