FOX Sports Detroit is thrilled to announce the addition of former Major League outfielder Craig Monroe as a studio analyst for the 2012 Tigers season.

Monroe’s nine-year career reached its pinnacle in 2006 as the starting left fielder for the American League Champion Tigers. He posted career highs with 28 home runs and 92 RBIs, and added five more home runs in the postseason.

Monroe also spent time with the Rangers, Cubs, Twins and Pirates.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Fox Sports Detroit team,” Monroe said. “My best memories as a player were wearing the Olde English D. The fans have always been in my corner, and I’m excited to be coming home to start this new adventure.”

Fox Sports Detroit will be broadcasting 157 Tigers games this season, with pre- and post-game shows for each telecast. Monroe will be in studio providing insightful analysis.

“All of us at FOX Sports Detroit are thrilled to have Craig join our Tigers broadcasting team” FOX Sports Detroit Senior Vice President/General Manager Greg Hammaren said. “His unique perspective will serve Tigers fans well. We’ve waited a long time for a guy with his credentials, personality and enthusiasm to come along. Craig’s addition is another example of our commitment to always improve and always bring Tigers fans our best effort. “

Monroe will make his on-air debut during Fox Sports Detroit’s Opening Day coverage on April 5, when the Tigers play host to the Boston Red Sox.
