Coyotes sponsoring drive to benefit St. Mary's Food Bank at Saturday's game
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Coyotes are supporting St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance with a food and funds drive prior to the Saturday, Nov. 29, game when Phoenix takes on the Calgary Flames at 6 p.m. at Gila River Arena.
St. Mary's volunteers will be stationed at all Gila River Arena entrances beginning 90 minutes prior to face-off to accept donations of non-perishable food and/or funds to help provide for those in need this holiday season. St. Mary's is desperately low on the following items for the holiday season: One-pound bags of rice and beans, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and canned meats.
Every dollar donated allows the Food Bank to distribute enough food to provide seven meals into the community. A $25 dollar will fill an entire holiday food box donation â a 3- to 4-day supply of food for a family of four â including the trimmings for a holiday meal.
During the first intermission, the Coyotes will honor the winning high schools from the "Project Hunger 2014" Food Drive. More than 20 Valley high school collected food and funds for children in need during the month of October, with the winning school collecting the John Van Hengel Memorial Cup, named in honor of the founder of St. Mary's Food Bank.
