Coyotes recall Miele; Johnson, Rundblad out
The Coyotes on Friday recalled forward Andy Miele and assigned goaltender Chad Johnson to the team's AHL affiliate in Portland.
Miele has played in 40 games for Portland this season, collecting 11 goals and 16 assists. At the time of his recall, he was second among all Pirates in scoring and goals. Miele played in seven games for the Coyotes last year after making his NHL debut on Oct. 23, 2011, at Anaheim, and also tallied 16 goals and 38 assists with Portland last year.
Johnson made two starts for the Coyotes this week in place of injured starter Mike Smith, posting a 1-0-1 record with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. He earned his first career NHL shutout on Jan. 28 against Nashville when he made 21 saves. Johnson has appeared in 24 games with the Pirates this season, posting a 14-8-0 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.
In addition, the Coyotes assigned defenseman David Rundblad to the Arizona Sundogs of the CHL on Friday. Rundblad, a former first-round pick who was acquired from the Senators last year in the Kyle Turris trade, played in three games this year for the Coyotes and did not record a point. He was a minus-1.
