Cowboys Witten on retiring: 'I haven't thought about it one time'

Jason Witten turned 32 earlier this month. Tony Romo and long snapper L.P. Ladouceur are the only players older than Witten on the current Dallas Cowboys roster.

But Witten doesn't think of himself as someone in the final stages of their career.

The nine-time Pro Bowler recently predicted that Romo will guide the Cowboys to a championship. Dallas is 1-4 in the playoffs during Witten's 11 seasons, so he'd certainly like to be part of that Super Bowl run.

"I haven't thought about [retirement] one time," Witten said Sunday during a youth football camp he hosted at Grand Prairie High School. "Obviously, I know I probably have less football ahead of me than I do more, but I'm living in that moment."

Witten currently sits 17th on the all-time receptions list with 879. The only tight end ahead of him is Tony Gonzalez (1,325). Gonzalez retired after the 2013 season at the age of 38.

Could Witten, who hasn't missed a game since his rookie year, play six more seasons?

"I think there's a core group of guys that have experienced success and some adversity together and we want to come out on the other end, and that's competing for a championship," Witten said. "I'm exhausting all of my efforts in trying to do that."
