Cowboys Coaching Connections: New York Giants
The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants coaching staffs share some history together. Here are some notable tie-ins between the two teams who will face off Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington:
*Head coach Jason Garrett backed up starting quarterback Kerry Collins from 2000-03.
*Running backs coach Gary Brown played running back from 1998-99.
*Tight ends coach Mike Pope was New York's tight ends coach from 1983-91 and also 2000-13. He is the only coach to have his name inscribed on all four of the franchise's Lombardi Trophies.
*Secondary coach Joe Baker was part of the 1995 Jacksonville Jaguars along with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and strength and conditioning coach Joe Palmieri. Coughlin and Palmieri were in their respective capacities while Baker was an assistant special teams coach.
*Baker also worked with Giants defensive line coach Robert Nunn on the 2009 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both were in their same jobs as was Dallas special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
*Assistant offensive line coach Steve Loney was the OL coach for the St. Louis Rams from 2008-11. Giants defense coordinator Steve Spagnoulo was the head coach from 2009-11.
*Secondary coach Jerome Henderson was the New York Jets Director of Player Development (2006) and then assistant secondary coach (2007-08). Giants linebackers coach Steve Hermann was the LB coach for the Jets from 2006-08.
*Passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan worked with Giants cornerbacks coach Tim Walton for the Detroit Lions from 2009-12. Walton was the DB coach as Linehan was the offensive coordinator.
*Wide receivers coach Derek Dooley is also connected to Walton through the 2003 LSU Tigers. Walton coached the secondary as Dooley coached running backs and special teams.
*Assistant Director of Pro Scouting Judd Garrett and New York special teams assistant Larry Izzo were part of the 2000 Miami Dolphins. Izzo played linebacker as Garrett served as an offensive assistant.
