Rumors have been swirling around Cole Hamels name over the past several months. And with the trade deadline less than a week away, we could be witnessing the end of his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Going up against a Chicago Cubs squad that have been rumored to be interested in the staff ace, Hamels did something pretty amazing on Saturday.

He threw a no-hitter against a team he may end up suiting up for in the not-so-distant future. Striking out 13 while walking two on a whopping 129 pitches, Hamels mowed down a decent Cubs lineup for the 13th no-hitter in franchise history and just the third no-hitter in baseball this year. This was the first time the Cubs had been no-hit since 1965.

Remember, Hamels was involved in a combined no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves last September.

Relying on stellar fielding and a great strikeout pitch throughout the afternoon in Wrigley, Hamels etched his name in Philadelphia sports lore in what could very well be his last appearances as a member of the Phillies.

Of the 13 strikeouts, Hamels got Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and Chris Denorfia multiple times.

The game did not end without some drama. With two outs in the ninth, Bryant hit a long fly ball to center field. Looking as if he was going to misplay the ball, Odubel Herrera went down to the ground to make an awkward looking catch.

If this was it for Hamels’ career in Philadelphia, it was one heck of a way to go out. It also represents a bright spot in an otherwise disastrous 2015 campaign for the team.
