Clowney: 'I'll be back in a few weeks'
Houston Texans rookie linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is getting closer to returning from knee surgery after suffering a torn meniscus in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins.
"I'm back on the field running," Clowney said according to HoustonTexans.com. "I think I'll be back in a few weeks. That's the goal."
Clowney originally had a timetable for four to six weeks, but neither him or the Texans have given any exact details of a return date.
"Right now I'm just taking it day by day," Clowney said. "Just trying to get back healthy. Rehab is coming along good. My leg's feeling a lot better. Just taking it one day at a time."
The top overall pick, who spoke with the media for the first time since his injury at a NFL Play 60 event, said the worst part about his injury is not being able to line up next to his new teammates.
"I talk to the guys every day," Clowney said. "I'm like, 'I'm kind of upset I haven't had a chance to play with you guys right now.' They're like 'Don't worry about it. It's a long season. Get healthy and help the team when you get back.'"
While the Texans defense has done a decent job of holding things together helping guide the team to a 3-1 start, the full potential of the team will be unknown until Clowney is able to make his presence known on the field.
As for the rookie, he just wants to get back to action, but is being careful to listen to the advice of others to not rush back from an injury despite feeling better.
"I keep telling guys, 'I think I'm ready. I think I'm ready,'" Clowney said. "They're like, 'Man, you just got injured.'"
