Clippers sign veteran guard Jones to help bench

BY foxsports • January 14, 2015

The Clippers have yet to make a trade this season, but they did make a move Wednesday with the signing of veteran guard/forward Dahntay Jones to a 10-day contract.

Jones, 34, has played in 589 career games for Memphis, Sacramento, Denver, Indiana, Dallas and Atlanta. The Clippers will be the seventh NBA team he has played for in his career. He's averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and .9 assists.

This season, Jones played 19 games for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Developmental League, where he averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.2 minutes.

Jones was drafted by Boston in 2003 but was then traded to Memphis.

A New Jersey native, the 6-foot-6 inch guard/forward played two seasons at Rutgers before transferring to Duke for his junior and senior season, where he and Clippers guard J.J. Redick were teammates during the 2002-03 season.

The Clippers need help with their bench after the recent trade of guard Jared Cunningham to Philadelphia.
