UPDATE 6:20PM: The team has confirmed these cuts via a short press release: "The Cleveland Browns terminated the contracts of the following six players today: linebackers Eric Barton and David Bowens, defensive linemen Kenyon Coleman and Shaun Rogers, tight end Robert Royal and offensive lineman John St. Clair."

ORIGINAL STORY, 6PM: Sources close to the Cleveland Browns organization have informed FOXSportsOhio's Zac Jackson that the team has made some significant moves this evening. The moves purge the team of a number of veterans brought in during the Phil Savage and Eric Mangini eras, and set the team to rebuild around a 4-3 defense.

Cut by the Browns, according to our sources, are NT Shaun Rogers, LB Eric Barton, LB David Bowens, OL John St. Clair, TE Robert Royal, and DL Kenyon Coleman. Rogers came to the team in a 2008 deal that sacrificed the team's second-round draft pick, but Rogers frequent injuries and the emergence of NT Ahtyba Rubin may have helped to convince the team to move on.

The team has not issued a press release confirming the moves. Further details will be coming this evening via FOX Sports Ohio and the Orange and Brown Report on Scout.com.
