Cindy McCain, Gossett among Ali Award recipients

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Cindy Hensley McCain, wife of Arizona Sen. John McCain, and Academy Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. are among the winners of humanitarian awards named for Muhammad Ali.

The Muhammad Ali Center in Kentucky said Tuesday that Cindy McCain will receive the Ali Humanitarian Award for Lifetime Achievement. She's being honored for efforts to combat human trafficking and helping children with facial deformities.

Gossett will receive the Ali Humanitarian Award for Education. He established a foundation encouraging young adults to live racially diverse and culturally inclusive lives.

Tony Award-winning actress, singer and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph will receive the Ali Humanitarian Award for Global Citizenship. Grammy Award-winning singer Jon Secada will receive the Ali Humanitarian of the Year Award.

The awards ceremony is Sept. 17.
