Cincinnati Reds sign former Angel pitcher Jose Arredondo
CINCINNATI (AP) Jose Arredondo has found a place to rehab his ailing right elbow.
Arredondo, who is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery this month, agreed to a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. The contract includes an invitation to spring training, even though he isn't expected to pitch this season.
Arredondo (air-eh-DON-doe) spent his first two big league seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. The 25-year-old reliever went 10-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 52 games in 2008 but slipped to 2-3 and a 6.00 ERA over 43 games last year, when he was bothered by the elbow injury. He also made 19 appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake last season.
