The biggest criticism of the Tigers' trade for Jarrod Washburn is that they didn't acquire a bat at the deadline last Friday. Considered the third-best arm on the market behind Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, the Tigers gave up a reasonably small package in 23-year-old lefty Luke French and prospect Mauricio Robles. On the business side, the Mariners added a young, back-of-the-rotation lefty they'll have under club control for the next five years for a 34-year-old soon-to-be free agent they couldn't give away via trade one year ago.
