Charlotte's Deaton completes NCAA Championships competition

EUGENE, Ore. – Charlotte senior Jake Deaton concluded his illustrious career Friday by representing the 49ers at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Haywood Field in Eugene, Ore. Deaton was the lone Niner to compete in the national championships, participating in his specialty event, the discus.
As one of 23 competitors in the event after one fouled out, Deaton started in flight two. He provided his best mark of 176 feet, two inches (53.69m) during his third of six tosses to place 20th overall. UCLA’s Julian Wruck captured the event title with a heave of 213-1 (64.94m).
The Mooresville, N.C., native’s participation Friday concludes the Charlotte track & field campaign in collegiate meets.
