Charge open home season following win on road
The Canton Charge open their third year at home on a high note. The Charge, who face the expansion Delaware 87ers tonight at the Canton Memorial Civic Center, defeated the Erie Bayhawks on the road, 102-91, to open the season Friday.
Today’s game is slated for 7 p.m.
On Friday, former Cavaliers forward Kevin Jones tallied 15 points a whopping 19 rebounds to pace the Charge. Rashad Anderson scored a team-high 19 points, and Michael Lee added 18. Each Anderson and Lee collected 10 rebounds -- as the Charge set a franchise record with 61.
Also for the Charge, Shane Edwards collected 18 points and nine boards.
Six Bayhawks scored in double figures, led by Mustafa Shakur’s 19 points. Terrence Jennings added 11 points, and CJ Leslie scored 16. Also, former NBA guard Ricky Davis netted 10 points with three rebounds and three steals.
The Charge raced to a 27-20 lead after the first quarter by limiting the BayHawks to just 6-of-22 shooting.
Canton led by as many as 16 in the second thanks in part to creating extra opportunities with seven offensive rebounds and scoring nine second-chance points.
The Charge maintained a double-digit advantage for all but 59 seconds of the game’s final 8:49.
