Cavs announce ticket selling procedures, tease new scoreboard

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:08 a.m. ET

Because of high demand for tickets and limited availability, the Cleveland Cavaliers have announced they will hold a lottery for single-game tickets.

The club also intends to offer an organized way for season-ticket holders to sell their unused tickets to other fans.

Registration for the single-game ticket lottery begins Friday and can be accessed via cavs.com/lottery. It will run throughout the season with the first winners chosen Oct. 6-10. They will have the opportunity to buy tickets to a November game, and the Oct. 30 season opener will also be available to them.

Fans will have the option to register for the lottery for every month of the season, or for select months of the season. Fans can only register ONCE and are limited to one (1) account per household and email. Once fans register, they will not be locked into their selection and can submit updated registrations at any time prior to each month's lottery.

During the first full week of each month at approximately 9:00 a.m. each day, randomly selected lottery winners will be notified via email that they can purchase up to six (6) tickets for one (1) game in the upcoming month. (For example, winners of the November lottery can purchase tickets to December games, and so on.) Fans are not guaranteed a specific game date in that month as availability to purchase is first come, first served. The winners will be provided a unique password and link to purchase tickets that same day between 12:00 p.m. -- 11:59 p.m. and must purchase their tickets in an allotted 12-hour time frame or they forfeit their opportunity for tickets. If a fan wins and elects to purchase tickets, they will be eligible to win again in 60 days. If they elect not to purchase for a game that month, they will be eligible for the next month's lottery.

According to a release from the team, its intention with the monthly potter is to reduce the number of outside brokers and individuals looking to purchase single-game tickets in bulk and months in advance with the sole intent of reselling them. There will be over 50,000 tickets available to fans through the lottery for the entire 41-game regular season.

Friday will also see the opening of the Flash Seats marketplace featuring single-game ticket inventory made available by Cavs Wine & Gold United members who hold season tickets. For fans looking to purchase in advance, outside of the monthly lottery process, and guarantee they will have the tickets they want for any and all games during the 2014-15 season, the Flash Seats marketplace is the place to go. Flash Seats is the primary method of ticketing for the Cavaliers and is the only official team-sanctioned secondary marketplace where fans have the ability to buy, transfer and resell their game seats in a safe, secure and 100-percent guaranteed digital marketplace.

Also on Thursday team owner Dan Gilbert appeared in a YouTube video teasing a new feature at Quicken Loans Arena for the upcoming season: a new HD Jumbotron that is still under construction.
