Cavs add Bickerstaff as assistant

Longtime NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff has been added to Mike Brown’s coaching staff with the Cleveland Cavaliers, general manager Chris Grant said.

Bickerstaff, 69, has been the head coach of the Seattle SuperSonics (1985-90), Denver Nuggets (1994-97), Washington Wizards (1997-99) and Charlotte Bobcats (2004-07). He has also worked in the Bobcats’ and Nuggets’ front offices.

Bickerstaff was an assistant on Brown’s staff with the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown was fired after five games, with Bickerstaff taking over on an interim basis. The Lakers went 4-1 under Bickerstaff.

Grant said Brown's staff will also include Jim Boylan, Igor Kokoskov, Phil Handy, Jamahl Mosley, Vitaly Potapenko and Bret Brielmaier.

The Cavs rehired Brown was rehired in May, three years after he was fired by owner Dan Gilbert.
