Cavaliers waive Diop, Kadji, Taylor and Williams

While nothing is official until Monday, the Cavaliers’ roster appears set.

The Cavaliers waived four players Friday, bringing their roster to the league maximum 15.

The four cuts: Center DeSagana Diop, center/forward Kenny Kadji, swingman Elliott Williams and shooting guard Jermaine Taylor.

So of the training camp invitees, undrafted rookie point guard Matthew Dellavedova and second-year center Henry Sims have made the team. But again, nothing is official until the Cavs submit their final roster, due to the league office Monday by 5 p.m. ET.

Of those released, Taylor will likely be the most discussed. He averaged 5.7 points and 1.9 assists in seven preseason games, earning praise from Cavs coach Mike Brown for his effort in practice and general tenacity.

But with shooting guards such as Dion Waiters, C.J. Miles and Sergey Karasev already on the roster, Taylor likely was the victim of a numbers game. Cavs point guards Kyrie Irving and Jarrett Jack can play the position, too.

Kadji played in seven preseason games with averages of 5.0 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game. Williams played in six Cavs preseason contests, averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game.

And Diop, who’s earned around $47 million in his 12-year career, averaged just 3.7 minutes  in three preseason games. The Cavs drafted him No. 8 overall in 2001. He also spent time with Dallas and most recently Charlotte.
