The Arizona Cardinals acquired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Oakland Raiders  through a trade that involves swapping 2013 draft picks and a conditional pick in 2014.

Arizona is sending the second of its two sixth-round selections this year (176 overall) to Oakland in exchange for its seventh-round pick (219 overall). In addition, Arizona has agreed to terms with Palmer on a new contract, the terms of which were not disclosed.

The 33-year-old Palmer (6-5, 235) joins the Cardinals after spending the past two years with the Oakland Raiders and playing the 2004-10 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Palmer threw for 4,018 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. In two seasons in Oakland, he started 24 games, completing 544 of 893 pass attempts (60.9 percent for 6,771 yards, 35 TDs, 30 interceptions with a passer rating of 83.5.

Among active NFL quarterbacks Palmer ranks sixth in career pass attempts (4,110) and completions (2,568) and seventh in career passing yards (29,465) and TD passes (189).

Palmer becomes the fourth quarterback under contract for the Cardinals, joining Drew Stanton, a free-agent signed earlier this month, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Lindley.

Kevin Kolb and John Skelton, who split time at the position for the past two seasons, have both been released. Kolb is headed to Buffalo as a free agent.
