NEW YORK (AP) John Velazquez rode his fourth winner of the day when Captain Gaughen pulled an 9-1 upset Friday in the $80,000 allowance feature for turf sprinters at Belmont Park.
Captain Gaughen swung five-wide turning for home and surged through the lane to nail 5-2 favorite Sandy'z Slew by three-quarters of a length.
The gray 5-year-old gelding trained by Jim Ryerson won for the first time in five starts this year and the fifth time in 27 career races.
The time was 1:07.88 for six furlongs on the firm course.
