Bucs WR Mike Williams faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal mischief
TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams faces off-field issues this month, as he's due in court Feb. 24 for misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal mischief stemming from an unspecified December event, according to the Hillsborough County clerk's office.
Williams, 26, was charged after the unknown Dec. 13 incident. The trespassing is considered a first-degree misdemeanor charge and the criminal mischief is a second-degree misdemeanor charge, as posted by the Hillsborough County clerk's office.
Bay News 9 first reported the news Friday.
"We have spoken with Mike Williams and the local authorities regarding the charges that have been filed against him," Bucs spokesman Nelson Luis said in a statement. "All of our players are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the high character and moral responsibility that we demand as representatives of the Buccaneers organization."
Williams, a fourth-round pick by the Bucs in the 2010 NFL draft, played a career-low six games last season. He had 22 catches for 216 yards with two touchdowns before being placed on injured reserve in October with a hamstring issue that required surgery.
A Syracuse product, Williams signed a six-year, $40.25 million extension last July. Before last season, he had at least 63 catches and 771 yards receiving in each of his first three NFL seasons.
