Bucs sign Lions defensive end George Johnson to offer sheet

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed restricted free agent defensive end George Johnson of the Detroit Lions to an offer sheet Tuesday.

The deal is for three years. As of Tuesday night, the Lions had five days to match the Bucs' offer, if they choose to do so. Detroit had given Johnson a one-year, $1.54 million tender, which gives it the right of first refusal.

Johnson, 27, has 36 tackles and six sacks for his NFL career. The Rutgers product had stints with the Bucs (2010 to 2012) and Minnesota Vikings (2012 to 2013) before joining the Lions last season, when he posted 29 tackles and six sacks.
