TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson has been suspended one game for a violation of NFL safety rules, the league announced Monday.
Goldson was penalized for unnecessary roughness during the second quarter of the Buccaneers' 41-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons after making helmet-to-helmet contact with wide receiver Roddy White, a player the NFL deemed "defenseless." Vice president of football operations Merton Hanks imposed the suspension.
This is Goldson's third violation of the rule this season. He was fined $30,000 for hitting New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland in Week 1. He was initially suspended one game for making helmet-to-helmet contact with New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles in Week 2, a ruling that was reduced on appeal to a $100,000 fine.
Goldson is expected to appeal again. If the ruling is upheld, he may not participate in football activities until he's reinstated on Nov. 25.
