TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested Monday morning after police allegedly discovered a .40-caliber gun in his carry-on bag.

The incident happened at LaGuardia Airport as he prepared to board a U.S. Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C., according to NBC 4 in New York. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is to appear in court Monday night.

"We are aware of the situation and are gathering information," Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik said in a release. "We will withhold comment until we know all the facts."

Bowers, 22, was taken in the second round, 51st overall, in the 2011 draft.

The 6-foot-4, 277-pound Clemson product has earned 31 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 26 career games. He had two tackles on four occasions last season, against the Oakland Raiders in Week 9, the Carolina Panthers in Week 11, the Denver Broncos in Week 13 and the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17.
