Buckeyes, Ducks title game jerseys revealed

This time, Ohio State will wear those sharp scarlet jerseys.

After teasing fans with a preview of jerseys the Buckeyes weren't going to wear in their Sugar Bowl/College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Alabama, Nike revealed Monday how Ohio State will look in the title game against Oregon next week.

Ohio State soon followed.

If those uniforms look familiar to Ohio State fans, it's because they closely resemble those their favorite team wore the last time they won the national championship, 2002. Additionally, black numbers on the shoulders recall the jerseys Ohio State wore in 1968 (another national championship season) and again in 1993 as a tribute to the '68 squad.

In another interesting twist, the '68 squad was like Urban Meyer's 2014 version, a young one that relied on multiple quarterbacks (Rex Kern, Ron Maciejowski and Bill Long then, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones in place of Braxton Miller now) en route to winning it all.

Of course, that '68 team -- known ever since as the "Super Sophs" with a lineup including second-year stars Jack Tatum, Jim Stillwagon, Mike Sensibaugh, John Brockington, Larry Zelina, Leo Hayden and Bruce Jankowski -- knocked off a West Coast team to claim the title. Then it was unbeaten USC featuring Heisman Trophy winning-tailback O.J. Simpson. This time around, Oregon and Heisman Trophy winning-quarterback Marcus Mariota stand in the way of the Buckeyes' winning it all.

Will history repeat?

Presumably the Buckeyes will also continue wearing the base-layer they sported against Alabama featuring a reproduction of the drawings and writings from the chalkboard of Woody Hayes, the head coach of the '68 Buckeyes.
