Buckeyes add 7-foot Virginia Tech transfer Thompson
Ohio State has added further reinforcements to its front line with the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Trevor Thompson.
The news of Thompson's commitment was first reported by ESPN.com. The 7-foot Thompson had been exploring several options over the last few weeks and was at Ohio State's spring football game on Saturday.
He's leaving Virginia Tech after one season and a coaching change. Barring a waiver for special circumstances, Thompson will have to sit out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer rules but then will have three seasons left to play.
Thompson averaged 5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season.
Ohio State previously added 6'9 Temple transfer Michael Lee, a one-year transfer with immediate eligibility, to bolster a thin front line.
Last year's starting center, Amir Williams, will be a senior next season. Six-foot-10 2014 signee David Bell is almost certain to redshirt next season, when the Buckeyes return three starters and welcome a highly-touted freshman class but one that, besides Bell, features three wing players.
