Buccaneers place CB Mike Jenkins on IR, make further roster moves
TAMPA, Fla. -- Mike Jenkins' season has come to an abrupt end.
Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed the veteran cornerback on injured reserve with a pectoral injury. The seven-year veteran, signed as a free agent in March, was thought to be a starting cornerback throughout the season opposite Alterraun Verner. However, a hamstring injury sidelined Jenkins throughout most of training camp and the preseason. He made one tackle in the Bucs' loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, though second-year player Johnthan Banks received the start at cornerback with Verner.
Meanwhile, the Bucs also released linebacker Scott Solomon, who had three tackles Sunday. In addition, Tampa Bay was awarded defensive end Jacquies Smith off waivers from the Buffalo Bills and signed free agent cornerback Crezdon Butler.
Smith, a Missouri product, entered the league as a college free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2012. He has spent short stints with the New York Jets and the Bills.
Butler, a five-year veteran, played a career-high 12 games with the San Diego Chargers last year. After entering the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a fifth-round pick in 2010, he has also had short stint with the Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins and Bills. He has eight tackles for his career.
The Bucs also added defensive end Adrian Robinson to the practice squad. A three-year veteran, he has three tackles in short stints with the Steelers, Denver Broncos, Chargers and Redskins.
