BEREA, Ohio -Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston has been missing from training camp practices, and the mystery surrounding his absence suggests it may not be a short-term scenario.
New Browns coach Mike Pettine answered a question about Pinkston Sunday by saying he could not comment on the matter "for reasons I can't speak on" and would not say if he thought Pinkston would be back.
Later, Browns general manager Ray Farmer gave a similar non-answer.
Monday morning, the Browns released a statement about the lineman:
"Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston has not been medically cleared to participate in football activities. The team has been in communication with Jason and his representatives and will respect their wishes to not provide any further details at this time."
An active Twitter user, Pinkston tweeted on early Sunday afternoon: "I can assure you I'm in no legal trouble & retiring hasn't came up. As far as my situation I'll leave it to them to explain."
A fifth-round draft pick out of Pittsbugh in 2011, Pinkston has made 25 appearances and 24 starts over the last three seasons at guard.
