Browns Pro Bowl C Mack has surgery, placed on season-ending IR
Alex Mack's season is officially over.
The Browns announced Friday that Mack is being placed on injured reserve after what the team deemed "successful" surgery to repair a broken fibula on Thursday in Charlotte.
Mack suffered the injury in last week's win over the Steelers. Earlier this week, Browns coach Mike Pettine said there was a chance doctors might find a clean enough break with no ligament damage to give Mack a chance to return late this season.
The Browns called up offensive lineman Ryan Seymour from the practice squad to replace Mack. They also added defensive lineman Christian Tupou to the practice squad and waived defensive back Isaiah Trufant from injured reserve.
Mack started the first 85 games and played 5,279 consecutive offensive snaps to begin his NFL career, with the streak ending in the second quarter against Pittsburgh on Oct. 12. A two-time Pro Bowl selection (2010, 2013), Mack was drafted by the Browns in the first round in 2009.
