Browns place franchise tag on Dawson

The Browns have announced their intentions to use the franchise tag on kicker Phil Dawson.
This marks the first time the Browns have used the franchise tag. Dawson, a 12-year vet and the only remaining member of the 1999 expansion Browns was scheduled to become a free agent Mar. 4, or whenever a new collective bargaining agreement is reached and the NFL's player movement period begins.
The tag all but ensures that Dawson will be with the Browns in 2011 and gives the team and Dawson a chance to negotiate a long-term extension.
Various reports put the cost of Dawson's franchise tender for next seson at $3.25 million.
