Brewers minor-league stars of the week: June 1
Each week FOXSportsWisconsin.com identifies the top pitcher and position player from the Milwaukee Brewers' top four main affiliates: Triple-A Colorado Springs, Double-A Biloxi, High-A Brevard County and Low-A Wisconsin. Here's a look at all eight players who made the list for the week of May 25-31.
TRIPLE-A COLORADO SPRINGS (3-4)
Player of the Week: OF Shane Peterson
Week stats: .375 (9-for-24), 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI in 6 games
Recent highlights: Peterson continued his torrid month by hitting .375 with five extra-base hits this past week. The 27-year-old now carries a .340 batting average with four home runs in May. With Khris Davis going down with a torn meniscus in his right knee, Peterson could get the call up to Milwaukee in the coming days. He is on the 40-man roster, as is Logan Schafer.
Pitcher of the Week: RHP Tyler Cravy
Week stats: 1-0, 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Recent highlights: Cravy earned a promotion to the big leagues by holding Las Vegas to just one run on five hits over eight innings in Colorado Springs' 11-1 victory Monday. The 25-year-old has righted the ship after a slow start to the season, as he's allowed just two earned runs over his last 14 innings. Cravy will join the Brewers for Monday's series opener in St. Louis and could make his first big-league start Tuesday.
DOUBLE-A BILOXI (4-1)
Player of the Week: OF Michael Reed and SS Orlando Arcia
Week stats: Reed: .500 (8-for-16), 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 4 games; Arcia: .455 (10-for-22), 5 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 5 games
Recent highlights: It was hard to distinguish between Reed and Arica, so they earn co-player of the week honors. Reed returned from a short hiatus due to injury to hit .500 in the four games he played this week. He went 2-for-4 against Charlotte on Wednesday and 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI on Saturday.
Arcia had multi-hit efforts in four of the five games he played in, including three-hit games Monday and Saturday. Milwaukee's top prospect has recovered nicely from a 0-for-12 stretch last week to raise his batting average to .341 on the season. Arcia hit his third home run of the season Wednesday and doubled twice Thursday and Saturday.
Pitcher of the Week: RHP Damien Magnifico
Week stats: 1-0, 1 save, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Recent highlights: Magnifico had a strong week out of Biloxi's bullpen, picking up a win and a save for the Shuckers. Against Chattanooga on Wednesday, Magnifico got the final out of the ninth and worked a scoreless bottom of the 10th to earn the win in Biloxi's 8-6 victory. The 24-year-old then worked a scoreless ninth Friday to pick up the save against the Lookouts.
HIGH-A BREVARD COUNTY (4-2)
Player of the Week: 3B Taylor Brennan
Week stats: .421 (8-for-19), 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB in 6 games
Recent highlights: Brennan closed a strong week with hits in four of his last seven at-bats. The 23-year-old hit a pair of doubles Saturday against Lakeland and went 2-for-3 on Sunday to help the Manatees to a pair of wins. Brennan entered this week just 18 for his last 85.
Pitcher of the Week: RHP Jorge Ortega
Week stats: 1-0, 9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Recent highlights: Ortega takes home Brevard County's pitching honors for the third consecutive week after allowing just one run in a complete-game victory over Charlotte on Friday. In his first full season of professional baseball, the 21-year-old has three complete games in his nine starts to go along with a 2.03 ERA.
LOW-A WISCONSIN (3-5)
Player of the Week: 3B Tucker Neuhaus
Week stats: .333 (6-for-18), 2 2B, 3 BB, 2 RBI in 6 games
Recent highlights: The third-base prospect has hits in each of his last four games to raise his season batting average to .266. Neuhaus went 2-for-4 against Beloit on Friday and was on base three times Sunday.
Pitcher of the Week: LHP Kodi Medeiros
Week stats: 1-0, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Recent highlights: Medeiros, Milwaukee's first-round pick in 2014, shut down Cedar Rapids over seven scoreless innings in Wisconsin's 6-0 win over the Kernels on Thursday.
